Who’s ready for some crazy mafia chicks television this summer? Well, careful what you ask for, you might just get it! TNT introduces it’s newly added dramedy Claws! The show stars Emmy awarded actress, Neicy Nash, Judy Reyes, Carrie Preston, and breakout star Karreuche Tran. Also, along the side of Harold Perrineau, Jenn Lyon, Jack Kesy, Kevin Rankin and Jason Antoon. The show will air every Sunday at 9pm on the TNT network.
Luckily, for us we were invited to this Sunday’s Premiere. The festive showing was hosted at the Turning Heads Salon, located in the Leimert area of Los Angeles, California. The ambiance was everything Claws– from cupcakes, t-shirts, to champagne. They even had a complimentary nail technician from La’s number one nail spa, Laque nails.
Yes, the ambiance was absolutely to die for, but it was the show we all couldn’t wait to dive into! Five mafia nail techs in the swamps of southern Florida? Well, they’ve gotten our attention, but did they keep it? Okay, just to be fair the ladies of the salon aren’t out the gate mafia women. Instead, the plot takes a sharp twist after a money arrangement goes sour between salon owner Desna, who is played by Niecy Nash and her young thug’n sugar baby. Who is conveniently son to the big man in the city. **Grits teeth** So, Desna makes an arrangement to help smuggle some things through her salon for one year, in exchange for a whopping 20K. Come on Desna, with that type of federal pressure, we would at least say 50k tops. We all know drug lords are dirty money packing. Well, a year has arrived and her no good, filthy handed, sex driven sugar baby comes up short. $17,000.00 dollars short. Yep, he ain’t have a dime. Well, Desna who has an autistic brother and four employees depending on her maternal strength doesn’t take to kindly to sugar baby’s smart mouth and nonchalant attitude. Not to give it all away, but we’re just going to say somebody stole a page from Miss Ciedly’s notebook, in the Color Purple.
“I’m going to watch next week to see what happens,” said one woman.
“I don’t know, it seemed a bit crazy. I’m probably going to DVR the next one,” said another.
It seems for the most part the hour long dramedy has captured the attention of most by it’s unpredictable antics. The highly ambitions scenes of Niecy Nash spreading it wide for a young white sugar baby thug. (Yes, you read it correctly) Then, as if that wasn’t enough, she even succumbed to his “alternative” sexual demands. This, undoubtedly made viewers raise a brow or two. BUT Wait, it gets juicer. In a later scene, that same scummy sugar baby is caught by Desna, sexing the new nail technician Virginia, who is played by Tran! Now, remember Desna is the owner of the salon, so that means Tran works for her, but now Tran is screwing her plug? That was a classic introduction to an, “old school meets new school beat down!” Oh, this is too much.
Now wait, not all scenes were peachy and creamy. Quite honestly, some scenes did seem a little “forced,” or lacking natural chemistry. However, Not-to-worry, more seasoned actors like Judy Reyes, who plays a gay ex-con quickly made you forget. She seemed to have really embodied the voice and persona of the mysterious character. Providing the audience with memorizing scenes. These moments pulled the show back to a nice balanced rating, as far as quality is concerned. Karreuche’s lack of superior acting chops is off-set by her racy charged scenarios. Let’s face the girl is hot, so we’ll be nice. All in all, if we got nothing else from this premiere, we got that it’s going to be cuckoo crazy. Until next time! Will you be watching? P.S parents may want to skip this show when watching with kids.
